Hosting the IBEC Symposium, and a poster on amyloid-β transcytosis

Abstract

I hosted the 2023 edition of the symposium, which meant a day of introducing other people's work rather than defending my own. No bad thing.

I also presented a poster. Our group has found that the blood–brain barrier regulates misfolded protein transport by reading cargo affinity for receptors including LRP1 and LRP8. LRP1 carries most of the amyloid-β; LRP8 remains open. We build functionalised polymeric nanoparticles with multiple ligand–receptor affinities to mimic that behaviour, and are testing whether they improve amyloid-β clearance from the brain.
